you know better...

Easter weekend and streets seem more touristy, locals are either enjoying the long weekend with a short trip elsewhere or staying away from the "supposedly" crowded malls. Quite a few fashion shows still happening as a spillover from the SFF. Quite enjoyed the babes [but of course]

Guns & Roses: Chinese Democracy

Been putting Chinese Democracy on full rotation for the past week [thanks SKNNR]. Its sure been a long time coming for the album. Even Number (N)ine's had 2 full summers waiting for Axl's return for goodness sake, lol!
So can we expect more good 'ol stadium rock and crazy antics roll? I'd say very much so! Gone are the red bandana's, football jersey with white spandex, but the sound is still pretty vintage GnR
"There was a time"

Quite possibly the "Better" song of the lot, it kinda grows on me:

In any case, opening show is on 14th April in Japan with confirmed dates in Oz to follow. Time to go crazy boys and girls!

LiveFree.DieHard4

Yet another comeback...John McClane returns for probably the final installment. I guess Bruce Willis just wants to keep up with Stallone following Rocky6...but from what i see in the trailers: WOW
He blows away the competition with the fantastic crashes and explosions that has made McClane francise a studio sureshot.
Best line of trailer:
Man: "you just killed a helicopter with a car!"
McClane smugly: "...i was out of bullets..."
Peep the exclusive trailer for DieHard4 here
Oh wait, did i mention MaggieQ will be in it as well?

Motorhead: Ace of Spades
Most hype kids know nothing about further about a certain brand nor design besides price and rarity.

Can't really blame them, where else will they find the information? Not from where they read about the latest-greatest to drop this week, thats for sure.
Sighs, ain;t gonna be a rant. But enjoy the vid anyhow, frickin' rad

I-Rack

Absolutely spot on stuff from the guys of MadTV!!!
"Don't put more things into I-Rack, it could collapse by itself!"
"Wrong! what I-Rack needs is more things!"
"Look the I-Rack's starting to smoke!"
"That's, that's just the beginning of synergy...i'll help the process along by throwing the rest of our money at I-Rack"

"i want you to stop focusing on the I-Rack, and focus on our new product...the iRan!"

Eyescream x Undercover

Hype blogs told ya about the tee Undercover did for the Eyescream mag anniversary. Yeah, well, besides the obvious [and well intended] pun on the zine's name, there's a short little background on the print.
Back when Jun Takahashi was Jonio & Nigo was still starting out after "LastOrgy2", one of the first few tees Nigo printed was this ice cream print that they sold in Nowhere. Its been mentioned before that Jun designed that print. And that was way way before Pharrell came [he was probably still learning to skate] knocking on Japan's doors and Nigo help paved his way to super-hype-stardom with BBC/Icescream.
Now i've been kicking myself numerous times for sleeping on the tees when they were [cheaply and unknowingly] available on the 'bay and elsewhere, but i managed to find the same print on a sweater:

Curious to see what the words say? click pic to enlarge =)

Now, remember this type of cynical/silly/mundane prints were done during the Ura-era, inspired the whimsical/most times nonsensical rock&roll/skate/punk influences the designers [and most of us boomers] were going through; not some follow-me-"mr me-too" hype crap most are churning. So the next time you spot the Eyescream x UC tee, you know Jun was having a little fun with his print.

And then we come to the latest iteration of the bape ice cream print [gosh, if i didn't tell you, would you have guessed there were so many versions of the ice cream print?] that bape have been retro-ing [rehashing] like the bape camo:

But of course, Nigo has been running away with it on the Icecream label.
Well, all i can say is, at least its up with the times, and prolly in line with what the label is putting out these days: blinged-out flava's.
Point to note: It's ok to play with it when it's your own design. We shall wait and see who else plays "mr me-too" eh?

Futura Laboratories
From one master of the medium to the next, check out Futura Lab's latest tee drops

Mr Lenny doing his Barbara Kruger box tee line with some updates: raised box print, as well as inject it his little idiosyncratic/cryptic verses

Also continuing on with his FLOM-For Love Or Money theme: Box print with wicked currency back print. Which inadvertently complements Kruger's famous "i shop therefore i am" print.

More Futura scribes and atoms [funnily in asia, they're called "balls" (esp by HK-hype-kids)]

A more familiar camo print for the quintessential pocket tee. And while it may look like yet another pointmen portrait, look closely, its done on daVinci artwork [!], its "Coded" indeed!

i sure am late for April Fool's, but i can't pass posting this up:

Alanis doing Fergie's "My Humps"...
It's sorta wierd/sick/but ultimately hilarious, esp when Alanis does her bump and grind routine [LOL]. And by the way, i think it might even be the better of the 2 songs, haha!

New Balance SuperTeam33 PartII - Stingray

Part 2 of the SuperTeam33 series is once again upon us. As mentioned earlier, the SuperTeam33 series is a quarterly release, and New Balance Japan takes over the design reigns from USA. Based on the industrious strengths of a special team of 33 in Skowhegan Maine, who are very skilled in their trade, have an immense pride in their work and are committed to creating high quality products, the ST33 collection is the pinnacle of craft and enduring value from the century-year-old company that started selling arch supports way back in 1906.

Setting apart from the brightly coloured debut collection of the "Fish Shoes" from PartI, this second collection is designed in typical Japanese minimalistic colours, using Stingray leather, creating a distinctive image and style.
It presents a mature and minimalistic tone, incorporating global fashion trends and subcultural elements in its usage of not only cow-hide but stingray leather as well as check pattern on the uppers.

Known for its poisonous rod-like tail, the Stingray was known as a "swimming jewel" in ancient China and it was believed to bring wealth "swimmingly" to the person who owns the leather as well as firmly protect their property. In Japanese history, the unique beauty and durability of the leather was used for decoration on sword sheaths and helmuts dating back for more than 800 years. Another unique feature of the stingray is the "pearly eye" on the back of the Stingray's backbone. There is only one such mark on each Stingray [this is duely replicated only on the left heel of each pair], and it is as distinct as a fingerprint. The revered star mark is refered to as "the eye of heaven", and for sea-farers, they consider the Stingray the patron saint of the oceans.

Shots of the front and rear of the left shoe. Check out the distinctive "jewel-like" texture and solitary "eye" of the stingray on the left heel.
